Missions
“and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the ends of the earth.”Acts 1:8
Throughout LCPC’s long history, our congregation has been mission-minded. We offer a wide variety of
hands-on service opportunies; some focus on local issues and needs, while others extend our reach far
beyond our community. In addion to our hands-on service, we are currently supporing nine Christian
mission workers / families around the world, financially and through our prayers.

A dedicated group of volunteers serve on the Missions Team, which meets to monitor progress on major
projects, evaluate potencial new service opportunies, allocate available funds to individual missions and
missionaries, and design and execute special campaigns to recruit volunteers and raise funds, when
needed. We’re always open to adding new members to this team!

LCPC dedicates 10% of all financial gifts it receives (that are not designated for a specific purpose) to
support its budget for mission work outside its walls. In addition, we regularly receive gifts from
individuals in direct support of our mission projects and missionaries, which in the aggregate often
represent two or three times the amount the church finances out of its general offerings.

In determining how and where we serve, we keep the following key principles in mind:

-
Seek to follow the Spirit's guidance in prayer and conviction
-
Nurture friendships with the people we serve based on mutual respect
-
Mostly focus on underserved people who are struggling just to get by
-
Try to do work that everyone can support; tend to avoid projects that divide people on
ideological grounds
-
Remember that God seeks to bless everyone, and that those who serve often receive back more
than they give
-
Apart from our support for individual missionaries (with whom we maintain longstanding
commitments and friendship), dedicate the vast majority of our financial giving to missions that
LCPC’s own members and friends are personally engaged with, through active volunteer support
-
Do all our work with the goal of building God’s Kingdom here on earth

We would love for you to partner with us on God's mission to this world! Besides joining the Missions
team, here are some ideas for how YOU can partner – hands-on! – in Kingdom-building work in our
community and beyond. To volunteer or learn more about any of these opportunies, please contact

Casa de Los Angeles / Lomas Altas Community Center
Casa de Los Angeles (CDLA) is a Christian mission in the Lomas Altas neighborhood of Rosarito, Mexico, dedicated to serving children and families through faith, community, and practical support. Located on land donated by a La Crescenta Presbyterian Church member and prayerfully set aside for ministry, CDLA is developing an 11,000-square-foot, multi-story facility that will serve as a long-term home for care, outreach, and spiritual formation.

While construction of the main building continues, ministry at CDLA is already well underway. In early 2025, with the help of local missionary partners, we opened the Lomas Altas Community Center on site. The center is thriving, offering English classes, tutoring, community gatherings, and times of prayer for both children and adults. These programs are meeting real needs today while building trust, relationship, and hope rooted in the love of Christ.

The main CDLA building represents a long-term commitment to the people of Rosarito and Northern Baja. As it is completed, it will include shared living spaces, classrooms, gathering areas, and ministry facilities designed to care for children and support families holistically—physically, emotionally, and spiritually. Looking ahead, CDLA also anticipates planting a local church, deepening its partnership with the surrounding community and strengthening the spiritual foundation of the ministry.

Gifts from the LCPC community and beyond play a crucial role in making this work possible—helping complete construction, sustain the Community Center, and expand ministry to meet the growing needs of children and families. Every gift supports God’s work on the ground, turning vision into action and compassion into lasting impact.

The CDLA property sits on a breezy hillside overlooking Rosarito’s coastline and is easily accessible by car from Southern California. CDLA regularly welcomes mission teams and visitors who want to serve, build relationships, and experience firsthand what God is doing in Lomas Altas.

Habitat For Humanity
Seeking to put God’s love into action, Habitat for Humanity brings people together to build homes, communities and hope. The San Gabriel chapter was started in 1990. Since then, they have built over 100 homes in northeast Los Angeles county, and completed over 130 home preservation (major renovation) projects for families for whom such improvements were financially out of reach. Check out some of their past projects here: SGV Habitat Projects
On October 16, 2025, SGV Habitat officially began construction on its first full home rebuild in the Eaton Fire burn scar — the home of Kenneth and Carol Wood, long-time Altadena residents. After losing their home of 40 years in the fire, the Woods saw their dream come true as volunteers rebuilt their three-bedroom, two-bathroom home on Pine Street, along with an accessory dwelling unit (ADU).

This marked the first of 25 homes SGV Habitat committed to rebuilding in Altadena. With community support, the organization is working hard to expand its capacity even further, with a target of delivering ten finished homes per month by the end of 2026, with each home requiring approximately three months to complete. For more information on SGV Habitat’s fire recovery efforts, check out the link here: Eaton Fire Recovery

LCPC selected the San Gabriel chapter of Habitat for Humanity as one of its primary ministry partners to respond to the Eaton Fire disaster, working with other churches in the area to bring teams of volunteers together to help rebuild homes lost in the fire. We aspire to host multiple “build days” every year as Altadena recovers, hopefully every six to eight weeks, depending on volunteer interest and availability. Information on upcoming build days is distributed through LCPC’s weekly emails and other communication channels.

Kids Hope USA
Kids Hope is a national program created to serve elementary age children who could benefit from a one-on-one mentoring relationship with a caring and consistent adult. Since 2011, volunteers from our church have been serving students up the street at La Crescenta Elementary.
This program is based on a model of “one church, one school, one child, one hour a week”. LCPC mentors meet at La Crescenta Elementary School with their assigned students for one hour weekly during the school year. Each mentor is paired with a prayer partner who covers the student, mentor, and whole program in prayer. Many of our mentor/mentee relationships continue for the full six years of the student’s elementary education. Research shows that when kids feel loved and valued, they are better able to learn, grow and succeed; our goal is to help kids see that they have a future and a hope, keeping in step with God’s promises in Jeremiah 29:11.
One of our seasoned volunteers, Mary Braswell, shared what it means to be a Kids Hope mentor:
“When we first met a few years ago, my sweet kiddo and I chatted about how we might like to spend our Tuesday afternoons at Kids Hope. We were both new to the program and I wasn’t sure if “mentor” and “mentee” were part of a 7-year-old’s vocabulary. So I told her, ‘Basically, I’m your person.’ In watching her grow since then, I’ve seen her dealing with ever more complicated challenges at school, at home, and out in the world. My role is not to solve her problems, but just to show up, listen, laugh, share and always be ‘her person’.”
If you have a weekday afternoon open in your schedule, would you consider being “the person” for a child in our local community, abiding with them through the formative years of their life? The impact you leave can be transformative – for both your student and you.

In the wake of the Eaton Fire, Door of Hope took swift action—launching the Eaton Fire Housing Assistance Program to provide immediate relief and long-term housing stability to 150 low-income families with nowhere else to turn. As a Christian nonprofit housing provider located just a few miles from the fire’s epicenter, Door of Hope has spent nearly 40 years helping families facing homelessness through three holistic programs: Transitional Housing, Homelessness Prevention, and Alumni Services. They understand the fear and uncertainty of losing a home, and have the tools and experience to help families find safe, affordable housing as quickly as possible.
The Eaton Fire Housing Assistance Program was created to provide families with:
-
Transitional shelter for those with nowhere to go
-
Case management to help them rebuild their lives
-
Financial assistance to cover unmet housing needs
-
Housing navigation services to secure long-term solutions
-
Furniture for their new homes (facilitated by Door of Hope’s partnership with The Change Reaction)
LCPC has been providing hands-on support to Door of Hope families in a variety of ways, helping several families transition into new homes following the fire; collecting back-to-school supplies during Vacation Bible School; supporting special events like their annual Christmas Festival; and making and serving meals once a month. We are always looking for more helping hands to support this great ministry in our community.
Eaton Fire RecoveryOur Partners in Ministry

Making It Happen
Making It Happen
Making It Happen exists to meet the needs of those in our community who are homeless, unemployed, or under-employed by providing food and access to services that provide a pathway to more successful lives. The primary focus of this ministry is their weekly food pantry, which provides about 150 to 200 households with generous boxes of food every Saturday; on Easter, Thanksgiving, and Christmas Day, they also provide hot meals and encouragement to our unhoused neighbors at Sunland Park; and they sponsor a Family Christmas Celebration to bring joy to underprivileged children in the community.
Most people served by the weekly pantry do so through a drive-up service, lining up in their cars at Heart of the Canyons Church in Lakeview Terrace. In addition, deliveries are made to several locations with large unhoused populations, as well as to about 12 to 15 households (mostly seniors) who for one reason or another cannot get to the church. That’s where LCPC comes in! Members and friends of the church deliver these boxes to households in the area each Saturday.
Two teams of two people typically deliver about six to eight boxes each, requiring less than an hour and a half of their time from leaving their home to their return. It’s an easy task, made easier by the gratitude of the people we serve. To ensure we can meet this need each Saturday, we need a few more volunteers. Most teams serve about two Saturdays a month, but we also welcome volunteers who are unable to serve regularly, but are willing to fill an open slot when they are available.

Mission Partners
Meet Our Sponsored Mission Workers
We’re all sent to serve somewhere, but some of us have to cross oceans and continents to get there. That would include most of the nine missionaries / missionary families who LCPC helps to sponsor. They’re some of the coolest, toughest, smartest, most radically-devoted Jesus followers you’ll ever meet. They’re sharing the Gospel with people who don’t know Jesus, and making him known by striving every day to imitate him.

DANIEL AND MARIE ADAMS
are leading witnessing communities of college students across Boston to follow Jesus with their whole lives for all of their lives, serving as Area Director for InterVarsity Christian Fellowship.
JANE CHANG
is the founder and Director of Joy Hostel, a Christ-centered home for underserved girls in Dhaka, Bangladesh. Jane first arrived in Dhaka with her husband and fellow missionary, Man Young. The Changs were beloved members of LCPC while Man Young was a student at Fuller Seminary. After his early death from cancer, Jane founded the Joy Hostel.
TOM AND ROBYN CRABTREE
are serving sub-Saharan Africa with Wycliffe Bible Translators. Tom’s role is building capacity in local Africans for the work of Bible translation, while Robyn is serving as the Prayer Coordinator for Wycliffe’s work in the region. The Crabtrees are serving remotely from La Crescenta and traveling to Africa several times each year.
TERRI HEWITT
is a missionary to Taiwan with a special focus on counseling and Bible teaching. Born and raised in La Crescenta, Terri has also engaged in outreach in two other nations in East Asia.
JIM MILLEY
is the founder and Director of BridgesUS, an LA-based ministry that delivers support services – the type typically reserved for overseas missionaries – to over 47 Ministry Leaders in six states across America. Like foreign missionaries, these Christian leaders meet a variety of physical, emotional, and spiritual needs while making disciples of Jesus among diverse groups, helping to transform lives and communities across America.
YOUNG AND BOSEN OH
train and encourage pastors and churches in Northern Thailand. Young teaches pastoral theology and is part of an evangelistic outreach to the Karen people of Myanmar.
EMILY PERKINS
is serving at the Black Forest Academy (BFA), a boarding school for missionary kids located in Germany. She ministers in a variety of ways in one of BFA’s six dormitories, caring for the physical, emotional, and spiritual needs of 18 amazing teenage girls!
PHIL VAN HORN
is a missionary and founder of Influencers L.A., a discipleship ministry to men, women, and couples in southern California. Phil ministers through multiple small groups that meet weekly and replicate leaders; three “Souly Business” weekend retreats annually, serving 150 men at each event; and monthly medium-to-large scale outreach events serving up to three thousand men. Influencers LA is a branch of Influencers Global Ministries.
HENRY AND NICKY SPENCE WANG
bring good news to people in East Asia, a region of tremendous need. They are courageous servants who are grateful for all the ways we lift them up.
