Adrianna's Story
Adrianna is a powerful testament to the transformative impact of Kids Hope USA and the compassion of LCPC. Her story began when her mother was diagnosed with cancer just as Adrianna started kindergarten. School soon felt like a painful separation from the person she loved most as her mother’s health declined. Tragically, her mother passed away five days before Adrianna’s sixth birthday, leaving her grieving deeply and struggling to recognize even basic letters.

As days turned into routine, life felt heavy—until she met a kind, spirited woman with short hair who read silly stories, chased playground balls, and showed up every Tuesday at 2:30. This mentor’s warmth and consistency began to mend Adrianna’s heart, teaching her that adults could laugh, care, and love deeply. Through that friendship, Adrianna not only learned to read but discovered something far greater: God’s love—and that He is love.

On her fifteenth birthday, Adrianna gave her life to Christ, beginning a lifelong journey of faith. Two years later, feeling called to give back, she became a Kids Hope mentor herself. She prayed to become the kind of mentor her mentees needed most. That year, she was paired with a shy sixth grader who had also lost her mother. Together, they learned that Kids Hope is about more than academics or problem-solving—it’s about showing children the love of Jesus.

Adrianna’s story beautifully reflects the heart of Kids Hope: reminding every child that no matter how overwhelming life may feel, they are never alone. There is always Someone who loves them, laughs with them, and believes in them.

Is God calling you to grow deeper in your faith and live it out in meaningful ways? Do you have a heart for serving “the least of these” (Matthew 25:40) right here in our community? Kids Hope is a powerful local mission that connects loving, committed adults with elementary aged children who need encouragement and support.

Just beyond our church doors, there are students who long for a caring, consistent presence in their lives. As a Kids Hope mentor, you’ll meet with your student one hour a week at La Crescenta Elementary playing games, reading together, and sharing conversation. That simple act of showing up can leave a lifelong impact on your mentee.
If you feel led to serve as a mentor or if you’d just like to learn more, please visit the Kids Hope table after service. Co-directors Janie Roach and Armineh Manookian will be available starting August 10 to answer questions and help you get started.
