Please be sure to take a look at the new planting in the Courtyard, part of an Eagle Scout project being performed by Michael Van Citters (with plenty of helpers).

It’s beginning to feel a lot like fall around here! It may not be quite as cool as we’d like it yet, but PEAK dinners are back (We love you John Arangio!), the Fall PEAK classes are in full swing, the Cathedral Choir has returned from the summer hiatus and our kids are adjusting to being back in school. I have even seen an occasional red, orange or gold leaf on a tree!  We were sure sad to say goodbye to Kimmy Cox as our Student Ministries Co-Director. She brought a lot of enthusiasm and energy to our youth group these past 3 years and has such a heart for teaching them about Jesus.  Meanwhile, Josh will continue as the Student Ministries Director with his trusty assistant Austin Granier to help.  The In N Out Formal was another success as the youth sported their finest attire and chowed down on Double Doubles and Animal Fries. Chrissy Marks kicked it up a notch with hand made corsages for her small group girls since it’s their last In N Out Formal. It was an epic night!  We’ve got a great mission trip opportunity coming up October 6-8. A team will be going down to Rosarito, Mexico to continue construction on the Casa de Los Angeles Orphanage. In addition to working on the building foundation, you will get to experience the local culture through restaurants and worship at one of their churches. Accommodations are at a secure mission compound. Contact the church office or the website for more details and registration forms.  Back by popular demand – a one day mini women’s retreat! The simulcast event hosted by Carrie Hofmann and Michelle Bouse last spring was a wonderful experience for the ladies who attended, so they are hosting another one. On Saturday September 16, 9:30 am – 4:15 pm at Carrie Hofmann’s home, Please RSVP – or  Pat is in need of afternoon assistants for The Center for Children from 3:00 – 6:00 pm Monday through Friday. Applicants must be 18 years of age to qualify.  If you are interested, call Pat at 818-249-8124.  As always, love God with all your heart, love your neighbors as yourselves, and spread some love wherever you go. The world needs it! I’ll talk to you next month. Be sure to check out my full report in this month’s messenger here on the website!

Summer’s not officially over, but in 2 weeks our poor kids will feel like it is. The Glendale schools start back up on August 16 and all the college kids will all start heading back too. Ashley put on another spectacular VBS for the entire community, as 210 little ones visited Peruvian culture at LCPC and learned about Jesus. The kids raised $1200 for Living Water International, which will provide clean water to 240 children in Peru for an entire year!  There were over 300 people at the Family Fiesta Night, enjoying dinner, snow cones, a petting zoo, a waterslide bounce house, songs and a skit. What a great evening!  The Youth Group has had a busy few weeks. The Ralston family hosted Cinco de Julio night with a viewing of the Nacho Libre movie and guests were treated to delicious Nachos – hope they wore their stretchy pants! A couple nights later, the young men at church participated in Man Night. What happens at Man Night stays at Man Night, but let’s just say there is evidence that it was a wild and crazy time!  CFC had a festive Red, White and Blue parade along Montrose Avenue to celebrate the USA for the July 4 holiday. The Bistro 50+ crowd and nearby neighbors came out to cheer the kids on, and thanks to John Gray, there was patriotic music playing from the church bell tower.  Kids Hope USA is looking for new mentors for this school year! By spending one hour a week mentoring a child at La Crescenta Elementary School, you can make a big difference in the life of a child who is falling behind in school. Applications are in the church office or you can contact Mary Wilson. PEAK will be starting back up on Wednesday August 23.  One Saturday last month, I noticed Elaine Ross Collins working all alone, doing her Cornerstone Crew work down in the parking lot flower beds. This is such an important ministry that serves our own church campus and it would sure be wonderful if there were more people that could join the Cornerstone Crew.  Contact the church office if you can help. Keep cool this month – the air conditioners are working great around here thanks to our dedicated property committee, so stop by Sunday mornings to beat the heat! Talk to you next month.  Be sure to check out my full report in this month’s messenger here on the website!

Summer fun is in full swing at LCPC! Our biggest, loudest, most important community outreach of the year is just days away, so get your VBS Passport to Peru ready! Tell your friends, family and neighbors. The week will be filled with songs, crafts, games and Bible lessons as the children will be introduced to Peruvian children also learning about Jesus. The mission project for this year will be to raise money for Living Water International to build wells in Peru for children who need clean water.  The Wildlife Tour will be departing for the magnificent High Sierra’s in a few weeks, to hike the trails and enjoy God’s splendor.  Look for the LCPC crowd at Music in the Park Summer Concert Series at La Canada Memorial Park. Concerts start at 6:00 pm – bring a picnic, blanket and chairs and we’ll see you there!

Our hard working DR team of 38 people from 3 different churches just returned home after repairing 3 houses in villages outside of La Romana and offering health care to over 1000 people in the barrios, plantations and jails.   100 LCPC Dodger fans came out to cheer for the Boys in Blue, and even though they lost to the Nationals, everyone had a great time! Lots of people attended the All Church Picnic and raved about Michael Christie’s Texas Fajitas!    The Vine-Trumbo family had a beautiful celebration last month as George Jr. married his long time love Stefanie Loporcio in an outdoor ceremony in Santa Clarita. Congratulations also to Lindsay Aldana and Alex Waggoner as they exchanged vows a few weeks ago here at LCPC with Dr. Darren Pollock officiating! Lindsay was a gorgeous bride and we wish them a lifetime of love.  See you next month! Be sure to check out my full report in this month’s messenger here on the website!

It’s official folks – Summer is here! School’s out, the college kids have migrated back home, vacations are happening, and the LCPC summer events are starting! First up is the annual LCPC Dodger Night, Monday, June 5, at 7:10 PM, Dodgers vs. the Nationals. Be praying for our Dominican Republic team as they head to La Romana June 10 to work on the mission house, renovate four homes in the neighborhood, and offer healthcare to the surrounding barrios. We also have our SPARKS heading up to Forest Home and our Junior Highers going to Campus by the Sea on Catalina Island that same week.  Ashley is hosting a new event on Tuesday, June 20, called Bookies and Cookies. Kids are invited to bring a good book to read, and Ashley will provide a comfy setting and lots of cookies and beverages. Mark your calendars for the All-Church Picnic on Wednesday, June 21, at Dunsmore Park. Let’s congratulate Pat Chambers on her 20th year as the Director of CFC! Pat has been a blessing to hundreds of families in this community, to this church, and to her devoted staff. It’s clear to see why CFC is the best childcare establishment in town when you have a director like Pat! Ashley is working hard on the Passport to Peru VBS coming up July 10 – 14  If you’d like to volunteer for this energetic ministry, contact Ashley and she will find a place for you!  Ashley and Mary hosted their always popular SPARKS in the Dark night a few weeks ago. There’s nothing more fun than a giant hide and seek game on the church campus with all the lights off and ending with an ice cream party.  We had a terrific Kids Hope party with about 60 kids, families, mentors, and prayer partners celebrating another successful year of the Kids Hope USA program.  Gary Woodward and his Early Rodders friends treated us to a spectacular morning of classic cars and a delicious pancake breakfast! He had a great turnout and all proceeds benefited the LCPC Choir Concert fund.  Have you seen the fantastic video footage of our services streaming on Facebook Live? Todd Marks is working hard to bring our LCPC service straight to your computer screen so you won’t have to miss a single week!  You can go back and watch the videos at any time on the LCPC Facebook page.  See you next month! Be sure to check out my full report in this month’s messenger here on the website!
